On behalf of the of Ladies of the Hampton Roads Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated, I welcome you to our chapter’s website. Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc (TLOD) was organized on June 4, 1964, in Tyler, Texas and incorporated as a non-profit organization on September 8, 1964. Its founding purpose was to sponsor a youth organization after school integration was initiated under then President Lyndon B. Johnson. Our primary purpose is still to support youth through Top Teens of America.
The Hampton Roads Chapter was chartered on September 24, 2004, with thirteen members. This chapter serves as the only chapter within the Southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina geographical areas. Our programs impact the women, seniors, and teens throughout the area. With the support of the men’s auxiliary, known as the Lords, we provide mentorships for teens and support our Top Teens in all their activities.
The Hampton Roads Chapter has provided needed goods and services to several areas. These include services to the youth at the Hunton Y, which is the oldest African American owned YMCA in the United States. Additionally, we support all ages from the seniors at the Lynnhaven Cove Senior Living Community to the preschoolers at Norfolk State University’s Child Development Center.
Currently, the national organization is led by National President Lady Sharon Beard. Her theme is “Celebrating our Legacy: Transforming Lives and Making a Difference - One Teen, One Lady and One Community at a Time (TLC)” As members of TLOD, we implement her theme by continuing to assist our community within five major program areas - Community Beautification, Community Partnerships, Senior Citizens, Status of Women and our primary program thrust, Top Teens of America.
Lady Ingrid Watson Miller,
Hampton Roads Chapter President
